The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel-powered equipment and vehicles used in dredging The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel-powered equipment and vehicles used in dredging and excavation projects. This includes everything from trucks and trailers to excavators, dredges, and barge-mounted systems. The ideal candidate is skilled in troubleshooting diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical components and can perform both preventative and emergency repairs in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
Job Details
- Perform advanced diagnostics and repairs on diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and heavy equipment.
- Troubleshoot and repair excavators, loaders, trucks, trailers, pumps, dredges, and support equipment.
- Complete major component repairs including engines, transmissions, hydraulic pumps, and drivetrain assemblies.
- Support field service operations including emergency breakdown response and job-site repairs.
- Work is mainly based at the shop but must be willing to travel to job sites as needed.
- Welding and fabrication experience is a plus. Experience with Caterpillar, Cummins, or John Deere diagnostic systems preferred.
- Ability to read schematics, technical manuals, and wiring diagrams required.
- Mentor and support junior mechanics while maintaining accurate repair records and documentation.
Candidate must be honest, hardworking, and drug-free with a valid driver’s license. Must be a team player capable of working independently, taking direction, and prioritizing work efficiently. 5+ years of diesel mechanic or heavy equipment experience required. ASE, OEM, or Diesel Technician certifications preferred.
